Why don't I consider leaving comments a traffic method?

Because commenting isn't meant to generate traffic, it's more of a by-product.

And yes, there are some things we can use to generate traffic, even though that isn't their intended purpose, but only when it's ethical.

Leaving comments for traffic alone isn't ethical.

You're trying to take something from a community that worked hard to get it, instead of getting credit for sharing something with a community that you belong to, and reciprocating when it's given to you - these are two different things.

Think about how you'd feel if someone did that to your blog, everytime you want to evaluate a traffic method related to blogging. If you wouldn't mind and allow it at your blog, then knock yourself out, because whatever you are doing to others is about to happen to you.

Commenting to get traffic is also inefficient.

Why?

Let's say you leave one comment.

That comment will probably only bring you traffic as long as that post is new. When it fades into the archives, you won't get much traffic from it.

Let's say it's a DoFollow comment, and you're getting link juice. (A DoFollow comment is one left at the site of a blogger who is purposely not using the NoFollow attribute.)

Sure, your link will get followed by the search engines, and counted among the number of links to your site, which may give you a little boost.

But wouldn't it be better not to have to share that link juice with the other commenters?

Wouldn't it better to have a whole post dedicated to your site?

Wouldn't it be great to get a Permanent link to your site from their Blogroll, on a page that has more weight than a single post?

Wouldnt it be cool if someone discovered you by your link and then shared your link with other people?

So how do you get that kind of action?

Let's look at it logically.

Good Bloggers tend to make posts aboutâ€¦

* Quality tools, content, services, & products that will serve their community.

* People who are doing innovative, interesting, creative things that will interest their community, * Quality tools, content, services, & products that will serve their community and make them money, * News of interest to their community that will either save them from doing a full blog post or help them to do a full blog post,

.. just to name a few.

It follows, then, that if you want a blogger to blog about your site, to share your site with others, or to add you to their link roll, you should :

* Make comments that will both help and intrigue the blogger and his/her community, which make a good introduction to you. * Form a relationship with that blogger on the basis of what you have in common that could serve their community. * Form a relationship with other commenters in that community.

In other words, comment to give, not to get.

If you get the same amount of love back from comments you make, then great. If you don't, that's fine too, at least you got a link, and if you stick to it, you'll get that love elsewhere some other day.

This article is not intended to give you the newbies course about hosting, installing a blog on your domain and etc. It will give you some serious advice on your blog business

Bad blogging habits are easy to get into, and one of the worst is to leave your 'About' page unchanged. You know the page: it is provided by Wordpress as standard and a whole host of bloggers leave it unchanged. Why they do this is known only to them, because this is the first page that a large number of first-time visitors to a blog check out, and the reason why many of them leave without looking further.

All you have to do is to say a little about yourself, who you are, and what your blog is about, why you feel qualified to write a blog about this topic and how you can be contacted. If your blog covers a particular niche, rather than being simply a log of personal comments, then your potential readers will want to know why they should believe what you say by reading your credentials on the subject.

There is nothing wrong with having a personal blog about your personal thoughts on things, but if you are presenting yourself as a form of expert on a specific topic, then you will have to persuade readers that you have a right to do so. You should use your 'About' page to do that.

Another tip you should take is to claim your blog with Technorati. This registers it as yours with Technorati, and you can get a whole load more visitors. Since joining Technorati most of my blogs' traffic rocketed. It takes a while for new blogs to get going, but it's a lot easier if you make use of sites such as Technorati. The same is true of most of the social bookmarking sites if traffic is important to you. If you are using a blog to promote a product, then this is essential.

If you have a website then don't get lazy and be content to run your blog from a hosting site such as wordpress.com. It is better to download the software from wordpress.org, and host your own blog. You have much more control over the look and feel of it, and can use any of the thousands of plugins that are available online. You can also use any template you want, or even design your own. That way you get total customization of your blog pages, and can make it more distinctive than the majority hosted on Wordpress or Blogger's site. These are the two main tips that any blogger should take if they intend to blog seriously. However, was I to provide the third most important tip for anybody interested in blogging, then it would be to monetize your blog. Don't blog for nothing. If your blog concerns a specific niche subject you can likely throw up one or two affiliate programs on your sidebar so that they appear with your new posts. A three column blog is useful for this, since your regular sidebar will generally be full of permanent links.

If you monetize using Adsense, a three column layout is even more essential, since you will want a vertical block down one of the columns, in addition to some at the bottom and the middle. A good Adsense layout would be a column to the left or right of the main text column containing a vertical ad unit, a horizontal link unit at the bottom of the blog, and also a horizontal ad unit at the bottom of the latest post. You could also include a search box at the top or bottom of your main sidebar that allows a search either on Google, from which you get income, or on your blog.

You could also include one of your websites as a second search option, providing three altogether. The income might not be a lot, but most blogs with a few hundred visitors a day should be able to make from $10 to $20 daily minimum, depending on the niche. All you need are a few blogs like that.

These are my three main blogging tips. Yours would likely be different, since blogging is a very personal thing, but if you take these three on board you will likely find that you will get more visitors, have more fun and also be able to put a bit put aside for the holidays or that unexpected bill that always comes at the wrong time.

Banners are cheesy and hurt your credibility. Because visitors simply arrive feeling "pitched" rather than informed. Many won't think of Google as an Affiliate network but it does run affiliate products thru its Adsense program. Very few products but like everything from Google it is professionally run and top caliber all the way.

Please note, top marketers know affiliate links/products on their content pages will return 10 times what Google Adsense will give them. However, these marketers will also know using Google Adsense on less targeted pages throughout your sites or blogs will give you a healthy return.

Ask questions first before you join an affiliate program. Do a little research about the choices of program that you intend to join into. Get some answers because they will be the deciding point of what you will be achieving later on.

1. Will it cost you anything to join? Most affiliate programs being offered today are absolutely free of charge. So why settle for those that charge you some dollars before joining.

2. When do they issue the commission checks? Every program is different. Some issue their checks once a month, every quarter, etc. Select the one that is suited to your payment time choice. Many affiliate programs are setting a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for their checks to be issued.

3. What is the hit per sale ratio? This is the average number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale based on all affiliate statistics. This factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from the sale.

4. How are referrals from an affiliate's site tracked and for how long do they remain in the system? You need to be confident on the program enough to track those people you refer from your site. This is the only way that you can credit for a sale. The period of time that those people stay in the system is also important. This is because some visitors do not buy initially but may want to return later to make the purchase. Know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done some months from a certain day.

5. What are the kinds of affiliate stats available? Your choice of affiliate program should be capable of offering detailed stats. Constantly checking your individual stats is important to know how many impressions, hits and sales are already generated from your site. Impressions are the number of times the banner or text link was viewed by a visitor of your site. A hit is the one clicking on the banner or text links.

It is important that impressions and hits are also paid, as this will add to the earnings you get from the sales commission. 8. Is the affiliate a one tier or two tier program? A single tier program pays you only for the business you yourself have generated. If you really want to make some money doing this business, you are going to have to take the time to analyze what people are searching for online. So say you give up a few recipes in your article, but you are also promoting a great recipe book. A person would be more inclined to clicking your affiliate link because you gave up some great recipes, and they want more. Sowing and reaping here. Now let's assume this person is a beginner cook or is recently married and unskilled at cooking They don't only need holiday recipes but recipes for everyday cooking. They want to learn, and you will help them by providing the product that fills that need or desire. So give your potential customer something of value freely, and then let them know about your product - that will further enhance what you've already given them for free. 2. Keyword Optimization - Keyword optimization is when you do a search on keywords you think people are typing into the search engines for whatever it is they're searching for. The objective of this search is to see if people are actually looking for what you have with the keywords you think they would use to search for what you are promoting.(Think like the searcher would). Here is a free trial tool that will help, although it is limited, but will do for the affiliate beginner, who can later on get the paid full version. This tool called Wordtracker - www.wordtracker.com will give you the count on how many searches were done using your keyword or keyword phrase and how many in the last 24 hours. It will also give you the amount of competing websites for that given phrase. You want your term searched with a count of at least 100 times, with few competing websites between 1000 to 5000. You simply type in your keyword or keyword phrase, and wordtracker will give you other related keywords , you can ignore these if you feel they are not related enough and just click on the keyword or phrase you typed in and wholla, the information is provided. You may have to try several keywords before you come up with a profitable one or you may even have to try another niche idea altogether. Now, being that Wordtracker extracts the amount of competing websites from MSN, which represents only a partial amount. You can really see the competition by going into Google and typing your phrase in quotes, like this: "leasing homes." This will pull up a more accurate count of competing websites which are usually higher than MSN. Wordtracker gives words with a low count and zero or few competing websites a higher KEI (keyword effectiveness index). Don't use those words, what good would it do to use these words and no one was actually using them to search. You only want keywords with a high KEI, if they are searched for a lot, not less than a 100 times, with not very much competition, 1000 to 5000 competing websites or less.

3. How to use the keywords Effectively - If you have decided to write articles which is a free method of advertising, then you must use these keywords in your title and throughout your article naturally. Be careful not to over use your keywords purposely to get a high ranking through the search engines, they will pick up on this. Write an article that is content rich, meaning very interesting and informative which is beneficial to the potential customer. Give them something that will peak their interest enough to want what you have or at least allow them to remember how informative your information was to the point, that even if they don't purchase then, they may later, and they may also recommend your article and product to others. Keep writing rich and informative content with your keywords inserted naturally within your article.

Summary: Find a targeted niche (a specialized interest), not one that is too broad and therefore too competitive for a beginner just starting in the affiliate business. Choose a niche that is more targeted to a specific group. Painting, Guitar Lessons, Eczema, etc. Find a need and offer your product to fill the need. Remember to give something of value and free in the process and then offer your product to enhance what you have already given. You will learn a lot in your affiliate business, and can later implement other techniques that would allow you to target broad audiences such as the weight loss market, or even the making money market. For now, stay narrow. Think like your potential customer, when coming up with keywords they would use when searching for your product in the search engines. Optimize these keywords with the free tool, Wordtracker, then go to google and type in the keywords or search phrase in quotation marks to assess the full competition. Use these keywords in your article or ad. The title should contain the keyword or phrase. Use these keywords and phrases naturally throughout your article. Of course these keywords should be relevant to the product you are promoting. Don't write an article about candy and then promote peanuts as your product. Relevancy counts! These methods are free but if you have a little cash to implement into your business for more advanced tools, then by all means use them. This is for the affiliate beginner who is short on cash, but have time to implement these strategies.

Two Tiered Affiliate

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online. There is very little if any costs that need to be incurred, you don't need to deal with customers, and you do not have to touch any inventory.

Whenever you sell a product, you get paid a commission. These commissions can be well over 50% of the product price and merchandisers are glad to pay that much. For them, it is a matter of someone else doing the advertising for them. What they are essentially doing is trading one dollar for two. That is a trade I would make all day long.

Some programs go deeper than that even, which is what brings me to the subject of two tiered affiliate programs. They work similar to Multi level marketing programs except there are fewer ranks of people "under " you. What I mean is that these programs usually go as far as commissioning you on all that you bring in, and then a bit of all that your referrees bring in.

For example, an affiliate program that is two tiered can pay a commission of 14$ to you for each customer that buys through you. Lets say you got 5 people. Good job! Everyone is congratulating you and you are getting the recognition you deserve. If this is a program that bills people every month, then that 14$ per person comes to you every month. This equals $70 per month residual income that you will never have to work for again.

Lets say out of those 5 people each of them on average signs up 3 more. Some will sign up one, zero, or ten, so on average lets say three. Also, lets say that this program pays two additional dollars per month for everyone your referrees bring in.

3 people X 5 referrees= 15 additional people. 15 additional people X 2 dollars = $30 per month.

30+70= 100$ per month, not a bad chunk of change.
